Hanwell Town 0  Northwood 2

Saturday 31st July 2010

Another sunny afternoon down by the A40, and the Woods continued their impressive pre-season form with a 2-0 success at Hanwell Town.

Despite missing several players through unavailability, the side looked impressive from the start and both goals came in the opening ten minutes, the result of some excellent football. Scott Orphanou continued his good run of form when volleying home a John Christian cross after just six minutes and soon after that Kyle Matthews played a neat one-two with Scott Raper before powering a shot into the top corner.

An injury to Orphanou soon after this gave Hugo Figueiredo a run-out up front, and he missed a couple of great opportunities to increase the lead before Hanwell gradually settled and started to have more of the ball in the final ten minutes of the first-half.

After the break, Mark Barnham gave a run out to former Wycombe trainee Dean Wallace, who impressed, and there were further changes as a few youngsters were given their chance. Leon Osei, who enjoyed an excellent game up front, went close on another couple of occasions, while Figueiredo finally found his shooting boots only to see the Hanwell 'keeper equal to his efforts.

Only two weeks to go now until the opening game against Bedfont Town, with just two more friendly games for players to cement their place in the starting line-up: away at AFC Totton next Saturday, followed by a home game against Ryman Premier side Hendon.

Team: M. Swain, S. Raper (A. Triallist 55m), L. Holland (P. Hewitson 46m), M. Burgess (B. Triallist 85m), J. Sonuga, M. Williamson (D. Thomas 46m), J.Christian (L. McGrath 85m), A. Page (J. Hutchinson 85m), S. Orphanou (H. Figueiredo 17m), L. Osei, K. Matthews.
